The entire process of living in Zimbabwe is somewhat of a gamble at the current time, so you might imagine that there would be little affinity for going to Zimbabwe's gambling halls. In reality, it seems to be operating the opposite way around, with the crucial market conditions leading to a higher desire to wager, to try and discover a quick win, a way out of the difficulty.

For nearly all of the people surviving on the tiny local money, there are two established types of gaming, the state lotto and Zimbet. As with almost everywhere else in the world, there is a state lottery where the chances of winning are unbelievably small, but then the prizes are also unbelievably high. It's been said by market analysts who look at the situation that many don't purchase a card with a real expectation of winning. Zimbet is centered on either the local or the United Kingston football leagues and involves determining the results of future matches.

Zimbabwe's gambling dens, on the other shoe, mollycoddle the very rich of the nation and tourists. Up till a short while ago, there was a very substantial sightseeing industry, based on safaris and visits to Victoria Falls. The economic woes and connected violence have cut into this trade.

Among Zimbabwe's gambling dens, there are two in the capital, Harare, the Carribea Bay Resort and Casino, which has 5 gaming tables and one armed bandits, and the Plumtree gambling den, which has just the slots. The Zambesi Valley Hotel and Entertainment Center in Kariba also has only one armed bandits. Mutare contains the Monclair Hotel and Casino and the Leopard Rock Hotel and Casino, both of which contain gaming tables, slots and electronic poker machines, and Victoria Falls houses the Elephant Hills Hotel and Casino and the Makasa Sun Hotel and Casino, the pair of which has gaming machines and blackjack, roulette, and craps tables.

In addition to Zimbabwe's gambling dens and the previously mentioned lottery and Zimbet (which is considerably like a pools system), there are also two horse racing tracks in the state: the Matabeleland Turf Club in Bulawayo (the 2nd metropolis) and the Borrowdale Park in Harare.

Given that the market has contracted by beyond forty percent in recent years and with the connected poverty and crime that has cropped up, it isn't understood how healthy the tourist business which funds Zimbabwe's casinos will do in the near future. How many of them will survive until conditions improve is simply unknown.
