Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that features numerous comforts accompanying the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight table games.
