Like just about any business enterprise, casinos have workers that direct and administer day-to-day tasks. Several tasks required of gaming managers, supervisors, and surveillance officers and investigators do not need communication with casino games and players but in the scope of their jobs, they are required to be capable of managing both.

Gaming managers are in charge of the total management of a casino's table games. They plan, assort, direct, control, and coordinate gaming operations within the casino; formulate gaming protocol; and choose, train, and organize activities of gaming employees. Because their jobs are so variable, gaming managers must be well-informed about the games, deal effectively with staff and players, and be able to adjudge financial consequences impacting casino development or decline. These assessment abilities include deciding on the P...L of table games and slot machines, having knowledge of matters that are pushing economic growth in the u.s. and so on.

Salaries will vary by establishment and location. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data show that full-time gaming managers got a median annual figure of $46,820 in 1999. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $26,630, and the highest ten percent earned around $96,610.

Gaming supervisors administer gaming operations and workers in an assigned area. Circulating among the table games, they ensure that all stations and games are taken care of for each shift. It also is normal for supervisors to interpret the casino's operating policies for bettors. Supervisors may also plan and arrange activities for guests staying in their casino hotels.

Gaming supervisors must have leadership qualities and excellent communication skills. They need these skills both to manage employees accurately and to greet players in order to encourage return visits. Nearly all casino supervisory staff have an associate or bachelor's degree. Despite their educational background, however, many supervisors gain expertise in other gaming jobs before moving into supervisory positions because knowledge of games and casino operations is important for these staff.
